Netflix has given its ground-up remake of Eiichiro Oda’s manga a firm window. The One Piece arrives in February 2027, and it starts the story over from the very beginning.
When Does The One Piece Premiere?
Netflix confirmed at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June 2026 that The One Piece will debut globally in February 2027. The announcement came with the first concept art and key visual.
Crucially, it runs separately from the long-airing Toei anime, which continues weekly with the Elbaph arc. This is a parallel retelling, not a replacement.
Where Does It Start?
The series begins at the start of the East Blue saga, adapting from Chapter One. The concept art released so far shows Windmill Village, where Luffy grew up, with a scene inside Partys Bar featuring Shanks, Benn Beckman and the bar’s owner Makino.
Wit Studio, best known for the early seasons of Attack on Titan, is producing. Masashi Koizuka directs, with Mayumi Tanaka returning as Luffy in the Japanese track, the role she has held since 1999.
How the Director Is Framing It
Koizuka has described the approach as treating the material as a naval action-adventure story first. His stated reasoning is that this is a story about a boy who wants to be King of the Pirates, so the ocean itself needs to feel enormous and unknown.
That framing suggests a tonal shift from the Toei adaptation, which leans harder into comedy early on. Whether that holds across a full run is the question.
