Avatar Fire and Ash Release and Streaming Dates
Avatar Fire and Ash opened in theatres on December 19, 2025. It reached digital platforms on March 31, 2026, arrived on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray and DVD on May 19, and began streaming on Disney+ on June 24, 2026.
That is a 187-day gap between theatres and streaming, two weeks longer than The Way of Water’s window. Disney gave it a long theatrical run because it expected it to be one of the year’s biggest releases, and it largely was.
What Is Avatar Fire and Ash About?
The film picks up only weeks after The Way of Water, with Jake Sully and Neytiri living among the Metkayina clan in Pandora’s reefs while grieving the loss of their son Neteyam.
The new threat comes from the Ash People, a Na’vi clan with their own history of pain and anger, led by Varang. They align with the human RDA, and the Sully family is pulled into a conflict that also introduces the Wind Traders, a group Cameron has said will matter more in later films.

Box Office and Awards
Avatar Fire and Ash grossed roughly $1.486 billion worldwide, with about $404 million domestically and $1.081 billion internationally. That made it the third consecutive Avatar film to clear a billion dollars and cemented the trilogy as the highest-grossing film trilogy of all time.
It also won the 2026 Academy Award for Visual Effects and picked up a nomination for Costume Design, alongside Golden Globe nominations including Best Original Song. Critics landed at 66% on Rotten Tomatoes, praising the spectacle while noting the plot leans on a familiar catch-and-rescue structure.
The caveat is scale. This is the first Avatar film not to reach $2 billion, down from $2.3 billion for The Way of Water and $2.9 billion for the original.
