Violent Night 2 Release Date
Violent Night 2 opens in theatres on Friday, December 4, 2026, distributed by Universal Pictures. It is rated R for strong bloody violence and language, matching the first film.
Universal has kept the same slot strategy as before. The original opened on December 2, 2022, in the quiet stretch after Thanksgiving, and the sequel takes almost exactly the same weekend. Principal photography ran in Winnipeg from September 2 to mid-October 2025.
What Violent Night 2 Is About
Stranded in a crumbling New Jersey mall and cut off from the North Pole, Santa Claus is trapped dishing out violent justice to a ruthless crime lord and his henchmen who have overrun the town's Silver Bell Mall.
It is a deliberate change of scale. The first film was a single house under siege, essentially Die Hard with Santa. This moves to a wider setting with a proper villain rather than a crew of mercenaries, and the writers have said the sequel carries a western influence, with Miracle on 34th Street as a surprising reference point.
The trailer's tagline sets the tone: if you are nice, you get presents from the Big Guy. If you are naughty, you get justice.

Tommy Wirkola returns to direct, with Pat Casey and Josh Miller writing again. Kelly McCormick and David Leitch produce through 87North, the action house behind John Wick, Bullet Train, Atomic Blonde, The Fall Guy and Nobody. Dominic Lewis returns on score, Matthew Weston on cinematography.
Bringing back the entire creative team is unusual for a sequel and probably the strongest signal here. The first film worked because of how its stunt work was staged, and 87North is the reason for that.
Why the Original Worked
Violent Night grossed $76.6 million worldwide against a $20 million budget in December 2022. That is a modest number by blockbuster standards and an excellent one by studio maths, which is exactly why a sequel exists.
It also filled a genuinely empty slot. Christmas action comedies barely exist as a category, and the film found an audience by being the only thing of its kind in the market. The sequel arrives in a far busier December, two weeks ahead of Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three.

Where to Watch Violent Night 2
Violent Night 2 is a theatrical release with no streaming date announced. Universal titles typically reach Peacock a few months after release, and the first Violent Night followed that pattern, so expect a similar window in early 2027. Nothing is confirmed, and we will update this post when it is.

Should You Be Excited?
The ingredients are the same ones that worked the first time, which is both the appeal and the risk. Harbour is clearly enjoying himself, Jared Harris is a genuine upgrade on a faceless mercenary crew, and Kristen Bell as Mrs. Claus opens the story out.
The open question is whether a mall setting can match the tight, contained tension of a single house. Bigger is not automatically better for this kind of film. We will know on December 4.
