Sakamoto Days Season 2 Release Date
Netflix has confirmed Sakamoto Days Season 2 for January 2027. An exact date has not been given.
The renewal came at Jump Festa in December 2025, roughly three months after Season 1 finished airing, with a teaser and visual but no window at that point. Netflix then dropped a full teaser at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 24, 2026, confirming January 2027 alongside it. Episode count has not been announced.
What Season 2 Adapts
Season 2 covers the manga's JCC Infiltration Arc. Taro Sakamoto and Shin go undercover at the JCC, Japan's assassin training institution, hunting intelligence on the elusive figure known as X, or Slur, an assassin who kills other assassins.
Running alongside that, members of the elite task force ORDER, Nagumo, Shishiba and Osaragi, are sent to Kyoto on assignment and ambushed by an unexpected attacker. The teaser leans on the school setting for comedy, which fits the series' core joke of putting a retired hitman into ordinary situations.
How Big Season 1 Actually Was
The numbers are worth stating, because they explain the renewal speed. Season 1 aired in two parts across 2025, 22 episodes total, and spent 10 consecutive weeks in Netflix's Weekly Global Top 10. It peaked at number two, behind only Squid Game Season 2.
Across its run between January and September 2025 it accumulated roughly 106.8 million viewing hours, equivalent to around 40.4 million completed views, and held a place in the global top ten for 14 weeks in total.
The knock-on effect on the manga was just as sharp. Yuto Suzuki's series went from around 7 million copies in circulation in December 2024 to roughly 15 million by August 2025.
Ten straight weeks in Netflix's global top ten, and a manga that doubled its circulation in eight months. Season 2 was never in doubt.
The Live-Action Film
Separately from the anime, a live-action Sakamoto Days film released in Japan on April 29, 2026, timed to Golden Week. Ren Meguro plays Taro Sakamoto with Fumiya Takahashi as Shin, directed by Yuichi Fukuda, who made the Gintama live-action adaptation.
It grossed over $3 million in its first three days and roughly $9.58 million across the Golden Week holidays. No US release date has been announced.

Is It Worth Catching Up?
Twenty-two episodes is a manageable catch-up, and the premise carries it: the greatest hitman alive retires for love, gets fat running a convenience store, and keeps having to fight people while protecting a life he does not want to disrupt. The action is genuinely well animated, and the comedy comes from the contrast rather than undercutting it.
With January 2027 still months out, there is no rush, but this is one of the easier recent hits to get current on.
