Apothecary Diaries Season 3 premieres in October 2026. An exact date has not been confirmed, though autumn anime typically start in the first week, and Cour 1 needs to finish before the film arrives in December.

The December Film
This is the part people miss. Alongside the season there is a theatrical anime-original film, with an all-new story written by Natsu Hyuuga, the author of the light novels. It is not a compilation of existing episodes.
Norihiro Naganuma directs, known for The Ancient Magus' Bride. Japan gets it on December 11, 2026. International plans have not been announced, and the first trailer arrived in July.
Given the series streams globally on Crunchyroll and Netflix, a Japan-only run is unlikely to last, but nothing is confirmed. Expect it before Cour 2 arrives in April.
What Season 3 Covers
Season 3 adapts light novel volumes 5 and 6, picking up after the Shi Clan rebellion that closed the second season.
Maomao investigates a new mystery while Jinshi confronts a warning about an impending disaster. Crucially, the story then moves outside the imperial palace for the first time, heading toward the Western Capital. The teaser released after Season 2 ended confirmed the change of setting.
Author Natsu Hyuuga has promised more Maomao and Jinshi material, describing their dynamic as the emotional core of what is coming.
How Big the Series Has Become
The numbers explain why this franchise earned a film. The light novels have passed 45 million copies in circulation as of November 2025, with the manga above 38 million as of September 2024.
That is remarkable for a series with almost no action. Season 1 ran October 2023 to March 2024, Season 2 across two cours from January to July 2025, and the renewal was confirmed the moment the Season 2 finale aired on July 4, 2025.
OLM and TOHO Animation Studio return, with the original production team and voice cast expected back.

Crunchyroll confirmed at Anime Expo 2026 that it will stream Apothecary Diaries Season 3 internationally, continuing its run with the series. Coverage spans North America, Central and South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, the CIS region and the Indian subcontinent, with subtitled and dubbed versions.
Seasons 1 and 2 are also on Netflix and Hulu in select regions, so there is more than one route if you are catching up.
Should You Catch Up?
Yes, and October gives you time. Forty-eight episodes across two seasons is a real commitment, but this is one of the few recent anime that works for people who do not normally watch anime — the appeal is the mystery writing and Maomao herself rather than genre spectacle.
Season 2 in particular is where the series found its footing, and the Shi Clan rebellion sets up everything Season 3 is about to do.
