It was first announced at Jump Festa in December 2025 with a teaser and key visual. The October window was confirmed in June 2026, and the first episode had its world premiere at Anime Expo on July 4 — with reports from the screening noting a significant jump in visual quality.
The original anime ended in March 2021 after 170 episodes, making this a gap of more than five years.
Why It Is Called Season 2
This confuses a lot of people, so it is worth clearing up. Internationally the original run was split into Seasons 1 to 4. In Japan, all 170 episodes aired consecutively and are treated as a single season.
So the new run is officially Season 2, even though international viewers might reasonably call it Season 5. Either way, it picks up where the 2021 episodes left off.
What Season 2 Adapts
The new season continues the Spade Kingdom Raid arc. If you want to read ahead, starting from chapter 270 of the manga puts you at the right point.
The single most important development happened off-screen: Yuki Tabata finished the Black Clover manga in May 2026, wrapping at 392 chapters after moving from Weekly Shonen Jump to Jump GIGA.
That matters enormously. The original anime ran weekly and repeatedly risked catching up to the source, which produced filler arcs and inconsistent animation. Studio Pierrot now has the complete story in hand and no reason to pad.
Five years off, and in that time the manga finished. For the first time, the anime knows exactly where it is going.
Cast and Crew
Ayataka Tanemura directs, which is a promotion from within rather than an outside hire. He oversaw episodes 153 to 170 of the original — its strongest stretch — and directed the film Sword of the Wizard King.
Studio Pierrot returns to animate. The original voice cast is back:

The 2023 film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King is on Netflix. It is canon and bridges the 2021 ending to this revival, so it is worth watching before October.
Is It Worth Catching Up?
One hundred and seventy episodes is a genuine commitment, and Black Clover has a well-earned reputation for a slow start — the common advice is that it improves substantially after the first arc, and most people who push through agree it was worth it.
If you are starting now, October is a realistic target at a few episodes a day. The shorter route is the manga from chapter 270, plus the film.
