Tezuka is called the God of Manga for good reason, and Princess Knight is among his most consequential works. It was the first narrative-length manga aimed at a young female readership, effectively founding the shojo genre, and its transformation sequences and sword-wielding heroine laid the groundwork for the entire magical girl tradition that followed.
The original was adapted once before, as a 52-episode series by Mushi Production that aired on Fuji TV from 1967 to 1968. This is a reinterpretation rather than a faithful adaptation, which the title change signals deliberately.

Who Made It
Yuki Igarashi directs, in his feature debut. He drew attention as a key animator on the ending sequence of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1, then made his directorial debut with the Lop & Ocho episode of Star Wars: Visions, which was praised for its delicate storytelling and action.
