What's in this guide
Blue Box Season 2 has a firm date, a returning cast, and a change behind the camera significant enough to be worth understanding before you go in. Here is the release schedule and what has shifted.
Blue Box Season 2 Release Date
Blue Box Season 2 premieres in Japan on Sunday, October 4, 2026, airing on TBS and 27 affiliated stations.
Netflix has confirmed a global October 2026 release, though the exact international date has not been announced. Season 1 streamed weekly following each Japanese broadcast, and the same pattern is expected.
The season runs two consecutive cours, matching the first season's structure, with the second half continuing into March 2027.
The Studio and Director Have Changed
This is the detail most coverage buries, and it matters. Telecom Animation Film is no longer producing Blue Box.
Animation moves to Electric Circus, a studio founded in 2024 by Yu Kiyozono, formerly president of TMS Entertainment. Daisuke Sakō, known for Lupin Zero, takes over as director from Yūichirō Yano.
Two key people do return, which should preserve the look and feel:
- Miho Tanino on character designs
- Yuko Kakihara on series composition
- Takashi Omama composing
The voice cast returns in full, with Yoshino Aoyama — Bocchi in Bocchi the Rock! — joining as new character Yumeka Kido.
New studio, new director, same character designer and writer. Blue Box Season 2 is a genuine handover rather than a straight continuation.
What Season 2 Covers
The series follows Taiki Inomata, a badminton player at Eimei Senior High, and Chinatsu Kano, a second-year and the ace of the girls' basketball team. He is in love with her. She has moved into his house. They both have their own athletic ambitions.
Season 1 ran 25 episodes and adapted roughly 79 manga chapters, covering volumes 1 to 9. If Season 2 moves at a similar pace it would land somewhere around volume 18, though nothing official has been said about where it ends.
Kouji Miura's manga, Ao no Hako, began in Weekly Shonen Jump in April 2021 and had reached 24 volumes as of February 2026.

Why the First Season Worked
Blue Box arrived in October 2024 without the marketing weight bigger Shonen Jump titles receive, and built its audience largely through word of mouth over two cours.
The reason usually given is balance. The sport is treated seriously rather than used as backdrop, and the romance is unusually patient by genre standards. Neither half is subordinate to the other, which is harder to sustain than it looks — and is exactly what the new team has to carry.
Where to Watch Blue Box
Blue Box Season 1 is available on Netflix as a Netflix Original, all 25 episodes, included with any subscription. Season 2 arrives on the platform globally in October 2026.
Release times vary by country, and Japanese broadcast comes first via TBS on Sunday nights.
Should You Catch Up?
Yes, and 25 episodes is a manageable run before October. Blue Box is a good entry point for anyone who does not usually watch sports anime, because the sport is a vehicle for the characters rather than the whole point.
The open question is whether Electric Circus can match what Telecom built. Keeping the character designer and writer is a good sign, but it is a genuine change and worth going in aware of.
